Sam Schelfhout is a Ph.D. candidate in physical culture & sport studies at the University of Texas at Austin. His primary research interests focus on sport and its role in United States diplomacy and international relations and the history of sport diplomacy during the Cold War. In addition, he is interested in the evolution of esports and video games and their increasing inclusivity with traditional sports in interdisciplinary sport studies. Schelfhout earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in political science and economics from the University of Portland in 2014 and a Master of Science degree in sport management from the University of Texas at Austin in 2017.
