Resto 47 La Stelletta, Rome

After queuing for an hour to get into St Peter’s and then walking around a fair bit we were in need of proper foods. It being bad weather Piazza Navona wasn’t especially enticing and so we spilled into La Stelletta enticed by their spectacular display of charcuterie in the window.

It’s more of a deli place but they do have a few tables around where you can watch the excellent fellers of La S do Italian things. This included removing the cap of my beer with a lighter (I wish I knew that trick), mopping the floor furiously (and continuously) in the very tracks of customers, and scorning tourists who couldn’t work out the complicated cash payment machine (guilty).

The sandwich was a beauty – freshly sliced pig in bread still warm from the oven. A cold beer to wash that down was just the thing. We took some pecorino for Christmas and were tempted by the sweet counter but resisted.

Best (and cheapest) meal of the trip.

9/10
