Resto 21 Moro, Exmouth Market

Moro is a restaurant I’ve been meaning to go to for a very long time and having tickets for the ballet at Sadler’s Wells the occasion to do so finally arrived. I got there at opening time and snagged a table by the window giving a view onto a lively Exmouth Market scene. A kind of turbo-charged CrouchEnd of middle-class happiness.

While I was doing that I supped an excellent fino and watched the room fill up. The birthday girl arrived and it was eyes down to see what was on the card. A whole lot of Good Thing was the answer. I would have happily scoffed whatever they threw at me but went for the lamb with cabbage rice parcels (big dolmas I guess). This was an absolute feast of deliciousness, plenty of tender pink lamb in an unusual (and delicious) dill-flavoured sauce. A glass of red with that went very well too.

For dessert and rosewater and cardamom ice cream was rather too delicate on the rose (nary a hint of lokum) but went well with a chilled moscatel. The service was excellent, really friendly in the right way. It’s good to go somewhere that lives up to its reputation. Oh, and I really liked the wall. Some walls are better than others.

8/10
