Resto 2, Corbaçi, Green Lanes

An afternoon on the baize grinding the youngest, Thorburn style, had made me hungry. We had a short trip to make it to the Salisbury for the quiz and Corbaçi was the food place on the way.

We were shown to a table by a man who looked freakishly like wacky French chansonnier (and mathematician) Boby Lapointe (himself not unaccustomed to playing a waiter) before we had a look at the menu.

Their schtick is soups and stews and there’s a hell of a choice. I went for white cabbage parcels of lamb and rice. Across the way he had a lamb shank. Warm bread, a trio of dips and a salad to share are part of the deal. Drinks? Aargh, no licence. Oh well, a pause wouldn’t be a bad thing before sweeping up the money at the quiz so it was a Coke Zero for me and a Fanta for him.

My cabaggey wraps were delicious, the rice soaking up the stock they arrived in perfectly. The dips were fresh and the salad had some Yama Hama chillis in it. The room is bright and cheerful. For £15 a head I don’t think you could get better value anywhere else on Green Lanes (except, perhaps Umut 2000). Recommended.

8/10
