Resto 17, Brasserie Le Boulingrin, Reims

After a morning working through existential pain and a moderately diverting museum (St Rémi- great if you like tapestries but otherwise ehh) I was hungered. Apparently KFC have solved hunger – c’est la fin de la faim. But let’s move on from that. I was hungry. But not as hungry as a lot of people.

I was also thirsty. Champagne spritz solved that but slowly. There was some shenanigans between bar and floor staff. Pressure was applied to hurry along the order. To no effect.

But then we did get to sit down. Absolute banging menu in Le B. Difficult to choose. So we had oysters while we were thinking. Then canard paste. Good paste, plenty of toast. champagne with that? Absolument.

Main of filet de bœuf rolled in with a red Sancerre. (Red Sancerre was such a good horse opera support actor.) I didn’t even know Sancerre was rouge sometimes but apparently it is. And tasty. The waiter was like one of the guys from “London’s Burning” but we can’t remember which one. Ross Boatman. (Power of Google.)

Dessert. Do dessert? Why not. Chocolate/coffee/raspberry ice cream. All good.

I was instructed by Ross to have a Marc de Champagne as a digestif. And who would I be to argue? Wisdom lay with the professional, it was delicious.

We were the last out of the resto and it was a tremendous afternoon.

8/10
