Restaurant 4, Bar Ugo, Milan

Navigli was recommended to us as an eating destination by more than one friend and with it being within staggering distance of the hotel it was our destination for Saturday night foods.
There’s a lot of places along the canal and difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff. We preferred to get off the front and that was where we found Bar Ugo.
The room is vaguely English country house but the offer is solidly Italian. An aperitivo with selection snacks at €10 a head is a bargain when the snacks are as good as this. Olives, nibbles and little focaccias went down well with a negroni and we were ready to move on to something more substantial.
We went for Vitello Tonnato (as good as the one in Clermont, if not better) and radicchio on the side (likewise). This was washed down with some seriously good red by the glass – Valpolicella then Ciliegiolo (sp?).
Service was first rate, especially as the room filled up quickly, mostly with locals. As an introduction to Milan dining Ugo was a winner.
9/10
