Resto 19, Le Madras, Clermont-Ferrand
First time in C-F and the place wasn’t exactly rocking on a Sunday night. It’s always fun to try out the Indian in France and see what the little differences are.
On this occasion they were few. The room was straight outta Holloway Road in the 90s with ogives, Ganesh, sitars all in place. Good thing.

A half wouldn’t be part of that though but we couldn’t be arsed to ask for a big beer instead (and as it turned out that was probably for the best for one of us) and perused the menu.
Absolute standard offer on the food front. How we forgot to order poppadoms I have no idea (two bottles of wine, on reflection, may have been the reason) but we didn’t. So we had chutneys with the starters – kebab, samosa, something else. One of which, in a surprise move, turned out to be banana turned red (those little differences) and not to its advantage. Lime chutney was as it should be.
Did we want the mains spicy? Yes please. Alas when they turned up neither was so. My chicken jalfrezi looked and tasted like no jalfrezi I’d ever had before, and not in a good way. But I ate it.
So, an interesting experiment but not one I’d repeat.
5/10
