Resto 3 The Swan, Westerfield

The first day of a cricket tour with golf behind me and five days of the red ball ahead I came to our digs’ local hungered and thirsty.

Thirst was taken care of by a pint of Adnam’s best while on the eating side of things there was a good range of standard pub fare from steaks to fish via veggie burgers.

Skate on the specials board immediately caught my eye, you don’t see enough of it. But first a prawn cocktail which had plenty of zip in the thousand island sauce and a good amount of shellfish. But the skate was a thing of beauty, simply done in butter with capers, riding on a bed of duchess potatoes.

The service was cheerful and prompt with a room full of diners showing that the locals were happy with being let loose again. An excellent way to begin a week of dining which I anticipate will mostly consist of pasta and barbecues.
