Restaurant 10, Urumchi, Bloomsbury
It was a morning of touring the BM, where the guiding free for all is becoming ever more dispiriting, Fortunately, my clients were cheek personified and bore the predations of Monster Groups upon their personal space with patience. Post-work, I was hungered.
Resisting the siren call of Stella & Quavers at the Larder I first ducked into Urumchi seeking heat. There was a smattering of company – students and tourists mostly – and a lone waiter brought me over the menu. Karamay was my previous Uighur experience and based on that I went for spicy chicken washed down with Diet Coke.
The chicken arrived in a thick sauce with plenty of vegetables, all folded into long plaits of thick flat noodles. Spice was provided by Szechuan chili, though not quite to the level of Karamay. Still, for twenty quid it was pretty good. Recommended.
7/10
